    1. Robert Scott

Question; does the fact that facial recognition software has an apparent inability to identify black and Asian people put to bed the age old argument that all Asians and blacks look alike?

    2. Eugene Minton

the ccp has also started using editing tools to replace images in video with other images. its' seen in an app meant to put an image in place of a face in movies... believe it or not. and if that quality is low enough, these videos could probably link you to any crime they wish to... find proof of your guilt with. the ccp like all other governments, has things leak from militarized programs into civilian hands. ... so my bet is that IF the ccp hasn't already developed this for use, they will soon.

    3. Arnhelm Krausson

Spooky, just as John was talking about "the Capability" sounding like a Netflix film, I was opening Netflix to look for "The Capture".... Is he surveiling ME???

    4. Bao Ge

This facial recognition software, skynet, is like the secret service screening process for people applying for the national security clearance and/or applying to get into the secret service.. except the secret service screening is much more stringent than that..

      Is that a hairpiece John?

    9. Steven R

hmmm obviously there is a push to over reach but i dont see a problem using on BLM if they are tracing people who committed criminal damage during the protests, i doubt John Oliver would complain it being used to trace the trump supporters who stormed the capitol building

    10. TheKennymag

So I agree with all of this and it is scary. But-one thing that popped into my head (And I admit, assumes a far more optimistic view of humanity than I usually subscribe to) what if this could be used to help identify not criminal/enemies of the state but sex / human trafficking victims or missing people / children. Or especially in current still pandemic times - used for contact tracing. Is that being used / done? Just curious

    11. Lasnight

10:05 To be fair, considering the fact that police might be using these programs, it might be a good thing that they dont work properly on people of colour... Because somehow I'm not sure I like the idea of cops being able to find any black person they want...

    12. Michael Noyes

Whose giving these people the right to my privacy???

    13. Colin

yea the fact of it being racist isn't great but I really think that takes a back seat to the fact that this tech is awful and dystopianand should not be used.

    14. MissKK660

While I agree facial recognition is supremely dangerous, using people with outstanding warrants as an example garners no sympathy. If your wanted thats a you problem.

    15. Arrie

This show is better without audience. It's my opinion!

    16. mike jopier

They did forget a face, but the face was left on and it remained in the seat of the white house of thrones! forever slumbering its duties and shitting on its floors! #Chosen

Please Do A Piece on Michael Jackson Hi, I’m writing to you because Last Week Tonight as opposed to other such shows actually cares about issues rather than chasing the headlines. It has been 11 years since Michael Jackson passed away yet to this day what the common consensus is that he is a taboo subject for many. I recall you guys once did a piece on Public Shaming. Michael Jackson was a genius, an abused child. He was strange. He was one of the few major stars from the 80s who came out of the 80s without a heroine addiction. He in his own way did many, Many strange things, but so do most other superstars. And more than others he actually cared. About children, about the earth. About the issues we are discussing to this day. While Icons like Freddy Mercury, Elvis Pressley, Prince, Beetles and many more are known for their good works, Michael is known for the something which he has repeatedly been acquitted for. It’s the truth that anyone looking for will find instantly but due to the “where there is smoke there is a fire” narrative, even 11 years after his death, the new media treats him like a criminal. All his trial pages are open for the public to read. He WAS weird. Making a ranch called neverland, hanging out with children. Trusting people he shouldn’t. But I urge you please cover him, hear beyond the noise like you guys often do. The most successful African American Artist of all time was a humble man child, who respected women, loved children and cared about our environment. He was not a heroine junkie, a private man who did not share his disease even all the way back in 1993 even though he was accused of wanting to become a “White Man”. He was eccentric. Hanging out with animals and caring about them. theobjectivestandard.com/2020/02/justice-for-michael-jackson/ This article covers multiple sources, some of which I had read previously. Michael Jackson was a multi talented millionaire pop star, who was not an alcoholic, was a caring father, a filial son, Treated women with respect, cared about the planet and it’s beings. The press that constantly kept DASHING him, had found a way to subvert their guilt. All those years of calling him a “Jacko”, “monkey” and many more hurtful things was justified if he was a paedophile. They NEEDED him to be guilty. Such a man cannot exist in Hollywood. Such public shaming had allowed and to this day allows Michael to be a victim to all this slander. Please do a piece, if not one that exonerates him then one that once and for all cements the fact the Michael Jackson, the greatest pop star, the first African American Idol was a paedophile. Not through unknown sources or flimsy headlines but through concrete proof. A news echoing in a closed chamber will not reach anyone, most fans who what to know the truth know it, other people will read the headlines but not the explanations. It’s about time the general public knows. Please do a piece on Michael, the blatant mistreatment by the media, The systematic racism he faced during his trials. Please don’t let the first African American Singer be remembered for the things he did not do, He was weird, weird enough to annoy Freddy Mercury with Bubbles feedbacks, weird enough to let kids crack raw eggs over Michael Jackson, Weird enough to play water balloons with children. But he was not a paedophile and the world needs to acknowledge that. He was in no way a “Perfect Human” but he tried his best to live right and we should not punish him for doing that. On this year please exonerate this Black man, the Justice System has done it two decades ago, it’s about time everyone else does. Please do a piece on Michael Jackson. #spreadtheawareness #justiceformichael #hedeservedbetter

For some reason turning on John Oliver when I wake up in the middle the night always helps me sleep. His voice is so soothing ❤️

    24. Mikael Finstad

Covid solved this problem. Now everyone can cover half their face without raising any suspicion.

I swear he did a video similar to this about soap dispensers not being able to detect minorities.

Deja Vu. The movie that has a man investigating his DNA splattered all over the inside of the Bronco that exploded with him in it, meaning he was involved and unless he can provide a time machine at the trial will go to jail for it.

    32. Giveme TheDaily

How about its use against U.S. Capital Rioters, are you okay with it being used to identify them? Look forward to your response, thanks!

John Oliver teen photo is so iconic, i might want to make it into a movie poster for my bedroom

    35. mark evns

😂😂😂 shows face recognition in UK, then says "you don't have to imagine what this technology would look like, in the hands of an authoritarian government"😂😂😂no we dont have to imagine, because you already showed how the UK government rolls🤔😂

    36. Logan Shillington

I LIVE for John doing a Russian accent.

    37. Bradley William Busch

So, you're avoiding saying that Edward Snowden was right, to avoid vindicating the people you were calling insane conspiracy theorists and possibly stalkers a few years ago? Well John, you're completely wrong about Biometrics: there is absolutely no evidence that observing people remotely destroys their social lives and has negative effects that have supporting evidence in the observation principle, and even if you were right and had concrete evidence, the AI are so much more intelligent than you that they would prove you were insane and ship you off to a mental hospital for electroshock therapy.

    43. Killian Garvey

I’m an English barrister called Killian Garvey (Google me for proof). I’m convinced that John Oliver would make a great barrister based on his ability to communicate and argue

    44. birdn4t0r

my worry with the use of facial recognition software is when it messes up. or if it falls into the hands of private citizens. especially when it comes to CSEM survivors. that's just scary…

    45. Maxime

    48. Svenulf Skjaldbjörn

Now that January 6, 2021 happened, maybe we should have a second thought about facial recognition software!!

      1. Grombrindal

who needs facial recognition when those idiots post it on their own social media.

    49. ry g

10:00 As someone who works in the field of computer vision, i can say this is mainly a matter of physics. dark skincolours have lest difference between skin and shadow making generating shapes with them much harder. nothing to do with racism as it seemed implied. it hs been a common thing for news media to jump and label the people who build systems like this racist but it is just a limitation of cameras.

      1. Braeside Bikes

        1. most people in charge of the data and the tech built around it are not minorities and this has already been shown to skew AI to exclude minorities from many categories. look it up as i don't have time to tell you how 2. police take the tech seriously even though it is more likely to be false when used on minorities. You don't seem to understand systemic racism at all. it doesn't have to be intentional.

Another good reason to not post your children's photos. You don't know where this is going. Granted this may come in handy for finding missing trafficking victims, child and adult, on porn sites, but you gotta wonder if it helps target the victims in the first place.

    57. FSX239

Yeah... This is coming handy now.

This is the worst video ever on this channel. You spend the first half getting us worried about the inconsistencies of facial recognition software, and spend the rest of it arguing against a facial recognition system that is highly accurate. WTF you want? Accurate facial recognition or no facial recognition? You're just playing both sides to make a 20 minute video
